Mehrten Ranch: A Time-Honored Heritage
The Schneider Family Roots:
It all began in the mid-1800s when the Schneider Family opened a modest butcher shop in El Dorado County, California. Their passion for quality meats and dedication to their craft laid the foundation for what would become a storied legacy.
By the early 1900s, the Schneiders had acquired a parcel of land in the picturesque Sloughhouse area. Here, they turned their gaze toward the rolling hills, envisioning a future where cattle would roam freely, nourished by the fertile soil.
Generations of Stewards:
For over 115 years, the Schneider lineage has tended to the ranch with unwavering commitment. Seven generations of ranchers have walked these hills, their footsteps echoing the rhythm of seasons, the ebb and flow of life.
Each passing torch carries not just responsibility, but also a deep love for the land—a love that transcends time and connects the past to the present.
Betty Schneider and Lloyd Mehrten: A New Chapter:
In 1941, Betty Schneider took a bold step. She married Lloyd Mehrten, uniting their families and their passion for ranching. Together, they began a partnership forged by love and shared dreams.
Betty, her father, and her brother became stewards of this hallowed ground, their love and hard work continued the family cattle ranching tradition.
Cattle Grazing and Freedom:
The Mehrten Ranch epitomizes free-range cattle grazing. Here, the cattle roam across grassy slopes, and thrive on native grasses.
In the summertime, when the sun paints the hills gold, the cattle graze in irrigated pastures.
Kristin Mehrten: Continuing the Tradition:
Today, Kristin Mehrten and her parents Robert Mehrten and Kathy Mehrten carry the torch and our commitment remains unyielding.
The Mehrten Ranch now brings you 100% grass-fed beef—a legacy of flavor, nourishment, and respect for the land. With every bite, you taste the essence of generations.
